Hello!

Judging by my last update, it's been two years since I posted on here! Crazy...time for an update!

Vote For Skullbrain's New Look!

Moving into 2025, I want to take Skullbrain Books up a notch and give the brand a professional makeover. I've currently spent the last couple of weeks working with artists on a platform called 99 Designs, where you can launch a project and have people submit designs based on your brief. 

If you'd like to have your say in how Skullbrain Books will look in the future, you can cast your vote on the platform. I loved the new logo of the skull with brains poking out the top, but had to remember who my target audience is and what schools and parents may or may not want to see or may be concerned about. 

Skullboy Book #2!

Is happening! I had started writing it during the launch of the Leap Of Faith Kickstarter. Along with Skullbrain's redesign in 2025, I'm going to be working away at completing the second book. I've spoken with Andi, the illustrator of Leap of Faith, who is busy until mid-late 2025, but is super keen to jump back on board the Skullboy Train!

It's titled "Skullboy and the Valley of the Blind" and sees Skullboy tackle issues of too much screen time. I'm not going to lie, this is a hard book to write. Screen time is something that I have a lot of myself, but after moving to Vancouver and discovering hiking and the world that was beyond the walls of my room, I wanted to spread the message to others to put down their controls, switch off the TV and get involved in seeing outside the front door. 

So there needs to be some more thought put into exactly what I'm trying to say. Technology is incredibly useful in creating connections, forming communities, and building our dreams, so how do we balance the time spent using technology vs. getting outdoors and doing good in our own neighborhoods?

School Visits

After the release of Skullboy, some friends of mine who work in schools were gracious enough to get me booked to read Skullboy to the students. The feedback was amazing, so much so that the Principals were more than happy to post about the show in their school network, which lead to even more bookings!

The students absolutely love Skullboy's journey. In the Q&A at the end, two of the recurring questions I get is "Will there be a book 2?" and "Will there be a movie?". I can't tell you how heartwarming it is to get this kind of feedback. 

I've already had some schools interested in introducing Skullboy to their students next year, and I'll be getting in touch with more schools once they are back in session in January. 

Other Projects

The Haunted Library

I spent some time over the last couple of years working on getting another project off the ground - The Haunted Library. It's an Instagram profile with a Horror Host known as the Collector who present spooky kid's books from the here and then. Check it out if you love a good nostalgia hit and miss the days of the Horror Host!

The Ancestral Trail

I also dedicated time to finishing the first part of of a book series I was reading on Skullbrain TV. I received permission from the creator to let me read these books and show the illustrations. It's called The Ancestral Trail and is a story of myths, magic and monsters from the 90's and one of my favourite book series growing up. There is a part 2, and I endeavor to get that recorded and released in the near future.

Hello, fellow Skullbrains!

I hope you're all doing well and enjoying life whatever hemisphere you are in. For some, you're hitting some warmer weather, for others, Fall is in full swing and it's the season that Halloween should be celebrated!

Things in Skullboy-Land have been going well and a lot of people have been asking me "Where can I get the book?" Finally, I can tell you! Just in time for the spooky season, it is now available on Amazon! In a few days, it should also be available on Kindle, as well.

I have a favour to ask of you. For the backers who received a copy of the book in any format, would you mind heading over to the book's page and giving it a review? The more positive reviews the book gets, the better chance it will be picked up by Amazon and shown to more people! Skullboy and I really appreciate it :)

The Missing 13%

School Tours

I'm starting to prepare things for doing some school tours. I had an overwhelmingly positive two days at a local Primary School in Adelaide. All of the students either wanted to see this book made into a series or movie, and they definitely wanted Book #2...they were thrilled when I showed them a sneak peek at the characters from the second book ;)

Donations Have Been Delivered!

Hello!

How's everything going? I just wanted to drop in and give you an update on what's been happening with Skullboy and the Leap Of Faith since we last spoke.

Donations Are Delivered!

This week, I took the donated copies from the "Get One, Gift One" pledge to United Way SA. They are a charity that makes sure books get delivered to children that may not have ready access to them. All up, 10 copies were donated and I asked Emma to make sure that they go to kids who would need this kind of motivational story the most. She was very grateful and wanted me to thank the people that pledged a copy to them.

A Public Service Announcement!

Emma was telling me that in a lot of families United Way SA cares for, books are considered a luxury! Meaning, that books aren't things that are easily available to these families, so if they ever do get a book, it's considered a luxury. I personally find that heartbreaking and insane. Especially when there are the means to make books as easy to access as a Netflix account or Youtube would be, but more on that later!

I will warn you, the website is a little broken at the moment. I'm speaking with Emma, and hopefully, I can help get something fixed for them. Skullbrain Books will continue to support this cause in any way I can!

Missing Rewards

In Backerkit, I set up a feature that will automatically send a link to the digital rewards for anyone who has filled out the survey. However, I've been getting told that the Digital Rewards still haven't been delivered. If you have or haven't received these rewards, could you please comment or contact me? I'd like to know either way so I can find out what's going on and make sure everyone receives these! 

If you have any questions or concerns about your copy, please reach out to me. 86% of the surveys have been completed. All of the people who have responded to their survey have had their orders fulfilled. Of course, there's always delays with the global situation, but most people should have their copies.

I've heard that some people haven't received a survey. If this is you, please check your junk mail for an email from Backerkit, if you still can't find anything, please send me a message.  Backerkit will send out a reminder next week if all orders aren't in.
